Outpatient Addiction Treatment

Leora is an outpatient drug and alcohol rehab in Ohio. Its addiction treatment programs are for people whose main problem is alcohol or drug use. Treatment is outpatient: there are no beds and no overnight care, and you go home after each day. In-person treatment runs at Leora's Columbus facility and Dayton facility. Virtual IOP is available anywhere else in Ohio.

Leora is an outpatient addiction treatment center accredited by CARF and certified by LegitScript, and it accepts all major commercial insurance and Medicaid.

Mood and anxiety symptoms often come with substance use, and the same clinical team treats them. When a substance use disorder and a mental health condition are both diagnosed, the co-occurring program treats them together on one plan.

Rehab Programs in Columbus and Dayton

Each program below runs in person at both Ohio facilities. The assessment sets which one you start in.

People who live elsewhere in Ohio can join virtual IOP, which is fully remote.

Outpatient Rehab, Not Inpatient

Leora has no beds and no overnight care, so it is not an inpatient or residential rehab. Every program runs during the day: partial hospitalization on weekdays from 9:00 am to 4:15 pm, intensive outpatient for 3 hours a day on 3 to 5 days a week, and outpatient on 1 to 2 days a week.

If the assessment finds you need 24/7 medical supervision, you will be told so at that point.

Ambulatory Detox

Withdrawal is managed first. Ambulatory detox is a structured, medically supervised program for the acute physical symptoms of withdrawal, and you stay in your home environment while it runs. Nurse practitioners and registered nurses assess and monitor you, and medication assisted treatment is used where it is needed. It covers withdrawal from alcohol, opioids including heroin and fentanyl, methamphetamine and other stimulants, and benzodiazepines.

It is limited to mild to moderate withdrawal that does not require 24/7 medical supervision, and not everyone is a candidate. The ambulatory detox page explains how candidates are assessed.

Addiction Therapy

Most addiction therapy at Leora happens in group, with individual counseling alongside it. The clinical staff hold LCDCIII, LICDC, LSW, LISW, LPC and LPCC credentials.

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT): finding the thoughts and habits that lead to use, and practicing other responses between sessions
  • Motivational interviewing (MI): a conversational method for working through mixed feelings about stopping
  • Group therapy: most of the scheduled hours from partial hospitalization down to outpatient, led by licensed clinicians
  • Individual counseling: a session with your therapist every week in partial hospitalization, and 1 to 2 sessions alongside group in intensive outpatient
  • Case management: support with the practical side of treatment, and coordination with your other providers
  • 12-step therapy: preparation for twelve step meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA), part of the community recovery support your team plans with you before discharge

Medication Assisted Treatment

Medication assisted treatment (MAT) pairs FDA approved medication for opioid or alcohol use disorder with counseling and therapy. Medication is prescribed and monitored under the guidance of a healthcare professional, and you meet with a nurse practitioner about it. It is available during ambulatory detox and at the levels of care that follow, where it is indicated. Medication management with the nurse practitioner is at least once a week in partial hospitalization, and every 2 to 3 weeks in intensive outpatient and outpatient. The MAT page lists the medications and what each one treats.

How to Start

  1. Call admissions at your nearest facility, send the request form on this page, or walk in. Both facilities welcome walk-ins.
  2. Have an assessment. It settles which level of care fits, including whether detox comes first. Bring your ID, your insurance card, a current list of your medications and any discharge plan from a previous program.
  3. Start treatment at that level. The admissions page explains each step.

Paying for Rehab in Ohio

Leora accepts all major commercial insurance and Medicaid. The Medicaid page and the UnitedHealthcare page cover those plans, and the insurance page covers the rest. Call admissions to ask what your plan covers at each level of care.

When Outpatient Is Not Enough

Worth knowing

Severe withdrawal needs more than an outpatient program can give. Alcohol or benzodiazepine withdrawal after long, heavy use can cause seizures, so do not stop either one abruptly on your own. Get assessed first. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is 988, by call or text.
