Outpatient Mental Health Treatment

Leora Behavioral Health provides outpatient mental health treatment for depression, anxiety disorders, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and bipolar disorder. These are treated in their own right, and you do not need a substance use problem to be seen. There are no beds and no overnight care.

In-person mental health services run at Leora's two facilities, in Columbus and Dayton. Virtual IOP is available anywhere else in Ohio. Leora is accredited by CARF and accepts all major commercial insurance and Medicaid.

Conditions Treated

Each condition has its own page covering how treatment works here.

Therapy and Counseling

Individual therapy and mental health counseling run alongside group sessions. The clinical staff hold LCDCIII, LICDC, LSW, LISW, LPC and LPCC credentials.

Medication Management

Medication management is with a nurse practitioner: at least once a week in partial hospitalization, and every 2 to 3 weeks in intensive outpatient and outpatient. Medication sits on the same treatment plan as your therapy, so the prescriber and the therapist work toward the same goals. If you already take medication, bring a list of it to your assessment.

Levels of Care

Partial hospitalization program (PHP)
Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:15 pm, in mental health, dual diagnosis and substance use tracks. Medication management at least once a week and an individual session with your therapist every week
Intensive outpatient program (IOP)
separate mental health and substance use tracks, 3 to 5 days a week, 3 hours of therapy group a day, 9 to 15 hours a week, plus 1 to 2 individual sessions. Nurse practitioner every 2 to 3 weeks
Outpatient
1 to 2 days a week, 2 hours of therapy group, plus individual sessions
Virtual IOP
by video anywhere in Ohio, a daytime program for mental health and an evening program for substance use

How long each level lasts depends on your needs and your progress toward your treatment goals. The assessment sets where you start.

Substance Use Alongside

When substance use and a mental health condition are both present, the co-occurring program treats them together on one plan. This is sometimes called dual diagnosis treatment. If alcohol or drug use is the main problem, the addiction treatment program starts there, with ambulatory detox where withdrawal needs managing.

When Outpatient Is Not Enough

Worth knowing

Active suicidal intent, psychosis, or being unable to stay safe between sessions needs more than an outpatient program can give. If the assessment finds that, you will be told so directly. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is 988, by call or text.

Starting Treatment

You do not need a diagnosis before you call. The assessment reviews your symptoms and your history, and it sets the level of care. Call Columbus at (614) 665-8878 or Dayton at (937) 660-4145.

Common Questions

Do I need a substance use problem to be treated at Leora?
No. Depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD and bipolar disorder are treated in their own right. If substance use is also part of the picture, the same team treats both on one plan.
Who manages psychiatric medication?
Medication management is with a nurse practitioner: at least once a week in partial hospitalization, and every 2 to 3 weeks in intensive outpatient and outpatient. Medication decisions sit on the same treatment plan as your therapy.
Is there inpatient or residential mental health care?
No. Leora is outpatient only, with no beds and no overnight care. If the assessment finds you need 24/7 medical supervision, you will be told so at that point.
Does Leora take Medicaid for mental health treatment?
Yes. Leora accepts Medicaid and all major commercial insurance. Call admissions to ask what your plan covers at each level of care.
Can I attend mental health treatment online?
Virtual IOP runs by video anywhere in Ohio: a daytime program for mental health and an evening program for substance use. The other levels of care are in person.
